What barcode formats can this scanner read?

It automatically detects the barcode type, so you don't need to select the format manually. The scanner covers all major retail, inventory, and shipping barcode types.

Why isn't my barcode being detected?

Ensure good lighting when scanning, hold the camera steady, and make sure the entire barcode is visible in the frame. The barcode should be flat and facing the camera directly. For damaged or partially obscured barcodes, try adjusting the angle or distance. If using image upload, ensure the barcode is clearly visible and not distorted.

Can I scan barcodes from screenshots or saved images?

Yes! Click on "Upload Image" mode and either drag and drop an image file or click to browse. The scanner will analyze the image and decode any barcode found. This works with screenshots, photos, and any image containing a barcode. Supports JPG, PNG, GIF, and WebP formats.

What's the difference between EAN-13 and UPC-A?

EAN-13 is a 13-digit barcode used internationally for retail products. UPC-A is a 12-digit barcode primarily used in North America. Both encode the same product data—UPC-A can be converted to EAN-13 by adding a leading zero, and EAN-13 can be converted to UPC-A by removing the leading zero. The scanner automatically identifies both formats.

Why can't I scan EAN-2 or EAN-5 barcodes?

EAN-2 and EAN-5 are supplemental barcodes that contain additional data like issue numbers or suggested prices. They cannot exist standalone—they must be attached to a main barcode (EAN-13, UPC-A, or EAN-8). If you're trying to scan just the supplement, it won't work. Scan the main barcode instead, which may include the supplement data.

Does the scanner work with all types of cameras?

Yes, the scanner works with both front and back cameras on mobile devices, tablets, and desktop webcams. On mobile devices, you can switch between cameras using the "Switch Camera" button. The scanner automatically adjusts to different camera resolutions and focuses on detecting barcodes in real-time.

Is there a limit to how many barcodes I can scan?

No limits at all! Scan as many barcodes as you need, completely free. Your scan history is saved locally in your browser and can hold up to 50 recent scans. You can clear the history at any time or delete individual entries. There are no usage restrictions or hidden fees.

Can I look up product information from scanned barcodes?

Yes! After scanning a barcode, click the "Search Web" button to search the barcode value on Google. This will show product information, pricing, and other details if the barcode is for a known retail product. This is useful for price checking, product lookup, or inventory verification.

Is my scan history private?

Absolutely. Your scan history is stored locally in your browser's localStorage and is never sent to any server. It remains on your device and persists between sessions. You can clear the history at any time using the "Clear History" button. No one but you has access to your scan history.

What does the format detection tell me?

The format detection identifies which barcode symbology was detected (EAN-13, CODE128, QR Code, etc.). This helps you understand what type of barcode you're scanning, which is useful for inventory systems, retail applications, or logistics.
